About Anjya

Anjya Thomas is a Chief of Academics at Attuned Education Partners, where she supports math engagements across school systems nationwide. She provides leader development programming to district-level administrators, school leaders, and community stakeholders to ensure clarity in instruction and systems, solve problems on system and school levels, and co-develop structures that lead to student achievement. At Attuned, Anjya has helped folks across dozens of projects to reflect on their areas of achievement and their potential to grow. She has created systems to prepare them for that growth, and implemented progress monitoring and revision measures to ensure that growth is resilient. Across Attuned’s SY24–25 mathematics engagements, most of which Anjya contributed to, 89% closed achievement gaps, and 88% made gains in proficiency.

Career Summary

Before joining Attuned, Anjya held multiple positions at Ascend Public Charter Schools, in Brooklyn, New York, including as the Chief of Curriculum and Instruction and Managing Director of Math and Science. While there, she developed a research-based math teacher training framework that resulted in student performance growth of 30 percentage points on the New York State Math Exam over the course of three years. Previously, she served as principal, Dean of Instruction, and teacher at Uncommon Schools. Anjya began her career as a middle school math teacher in Washington, D.C.

Education, Awards & Fellowships

Anjya holds a B.A. in History with a concentration in the Latina Diaspora from Williams College, an M.Ed. from Hunter College, and was a Relay Graduate School of Education National Principals Academy Fellow.

My Why

Anjya believes that everyone should be presented with choices in life, and she has seen that those choices are drastically expanded when one has received an education and limited when one has not. Unfortunately, those who are positioned closer to affluence and whiteness have greater access to high quality education and therefore a larger array of choices, and Anjya wants to do her part to expand the circle of opportunity.

What Brings Me Joy

Outside of work, Anjya enjoys spending time with her family and two young daughters, traveling, knitting, and being outside.
