About Lindsey

Lindsey Smith is a Chief Academic Officer at Attuned Education Partners, where she leads our academics team. Her caseload is focused on supporting schools and systems with language and literacy achievement, and bringing the science of reading to life in classrooms. Lindsey helped found and grow Attuned to its current scale and reach, including designing the academics team and services. In her literacy partnerships, which have ranged from single sites to large urban districts, Lindsey’s leadership has led to notable literacy gains. Most recently, she contributed to Richmond Public Schools doubling Virginia's rate of growth on the statewide early literacy assessment in SY24-25.

Career Summary

Previously, Lindsey served as Director of Language and Literacy for Denver Public Schools, leading a team responsible for supporting literacy curriculum, instruction, and achievement in grades K-12. During Lindsey’s tenure as literacy director, DPS achieved record-setting literacy gains on state assessments, implemented new standards-aligned literacy curriculum in grades K-12, and restructured literacy professional development to closely target educator and student needs. Lindsey entered education via Teach For America from the book publishing world.

Education, Awards & Fellowships

Lindsey holds an M.A. in Curriculum and Pedagogy with a concentration in Linguistically Diverse Education from the University of Colorado-Denver, an M.Phil. in English from the University of Cambridge, and a B.A. in English from Princeton University. She is also a graduate of the School Systems Leader Fellowship.

My Why

Lindsey believes that early literacy success is achievable. The overwhelming majority of children are cognitively capable of learning to read proficiently and joyfully by third grade—however, thousands, if not millions, of children and adults are being consigned to unnecessary suffering and missed opportunities when their education fails to make that happen.

What Brings Me Joy

Lindsey enjoys hiking, skiing, and running like a good Coloradoan. She also loves reading and spending time with her kids (9 and 5) and her dog.
