About Sonimar

Sonimar is a Deputy Chief of Academics at Attuned Education Partners where she leads system-wide strategy and academic improvement initiatives in early literacy and ELA. She partners with district and school leaders to support strategic planning, HQIM adoption and implementation, and professional learning, while building and refining instructional support systems that accelerate teacher effectiveness and student learning.

Career Summary

Previously, Sonimar served as Deputy Chief of Academics and Head of Schools for KIPP Texas Public Schools in San Antonio, where she led the systemwide adoption of HQIM, guided the transition to Science of Reading–aligned literacy practices, and drove measurable gains in K–2 literacy and foundational math across schools. She also managed principals, whose experience ranged from novice to experienced, and strengthened leadership practices that led to improved schoolwide outcomes. Before KIPP, Sonimar held multiple leadership roles with K12 Inc. (now Stride, Inc.), ultimately serving as Executive Director, where she led three schools through rapid growth and expansion during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. She began her career as a bilingual teacher and school counselor in San Antonio, Texas.

Education, Awards & Fellowships

Sonimar holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at San Antonio, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Wayland Baptist University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology for the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

My Why

Sonimar’s commitment to education is deeply rooted in her personal journey as an English language learner. She developed language proficiency through reading, an experience that ignited her passion for ensuring that all students, regardless of background or circumstance, have equitable opportunities to learn and thrive. As a mother of children with exceptionalities, she has seen firsthand the importance of identifying and addressing individual needs to remove barriers to success. She is dedicated to fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments where every child can realize their full potential.

What Brings Me Joy

Sonimar enjoys spending quality time with her husband, her 4 children, her 4 doodle dogs, and her extended family at home in Texas.
